Time to join again, an update on Instagram
In recent years I’ve been very vocal on what imho is best called ‘the selective indignation’ of Instagram. This was due to personal experiences and seeing how our community suffered from having content deleted. Or worse, accounts being banned for no reason. Because of this I stopped posting on Instagram last year.
To my surprise Meta recently published a news article regarding their public policy. More importantly, what caused it to become a problem for their own platform. It holds various strong statements regarding their content moderation and how ‘this approach has gone too far’.
Statements of regret by Meta
Here are some snippets of the statements which you can read in the news section on their platform:
“Too much harmless content gets censored.“
“We want to fix that and return to that fundamental commitment to free expression.”
“We have been using automated systems to scan for all policy violations”
“this has resulted in too many mistakes and too much content being censored”
“that shouldn’t have been.”
“we have been over-enforcing our rules.”
“we have been using automated systems to scan for all policy violations”
“this has resulted in too many mistakes”
“we are also now requiring multiple reviewers to reach a determination in order to take something down”
Best place to stay in touch with like-minded people
This sounds very hopeful, also for our community which has been prone to random accounts being deleted. Of course I can’t predict how much change there will be and how effective it will be but it is a great start into the new year imho. Recognising you’ve gone too far with your policies is one thing. Admitting publicly that you’ve done things wrong and promising to fix it is another.
Although it won’t bring back the Fetish_Erotica account, at least it feels like a much needed fix. Over the years I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Instagram but in all honesty, it’s still the best platform to stay in touch with like-minded people.
Last year (see My Fetish Queen post) I posted ‘for now, this will be my last post on IG’ with an explanation why. I’ve remained active on other platforms in the meantime. Since Meta announced to address the issues that made me stop posting here, I decided to included IG again when sharing my content. So back to business and hope IG returns into being that worry-free place it once was.
